So you see the empty storefront with the for rent sign? That is our new building. We met with the Landlord before Sabbath and got the keys....The rent will go up to $440. Which means we will have to come up with the additional $65 before the 5 th of each month as I cannot afford to pay it out of pocket.
He is tearing out walls he just repainted and remodeled with nice trim in order to accommodate us.
We have to come up with some money very, very quick in order to buy a sink for the Kitchen and some other odds and ends like shelves etc before we move in. We will have a very small kitchen this time and a room for an office which will double as a children's room during Sabbaths service etc. We also will be taking clothing out of the main room. It will go into a little room at the front....
This is a big blessing for the people we help and yes it will make things easier for us. But even more so we do not have to worry about the neighbor complaining as this is our very clear endorsement from the landlord that we are here to stay for some time at least.
Wichita in the mean time wages a literal war against being homeless. There plan they said a year ago was that there would be no one living in the streets in 5 years. Well that at first glance sounds good does it not. But lets look deeper...The city has claimed for over 10 years that they are working on a homeless shelter. 10 years and no progress...Okay they encouraged the shelter in what they call oldtown to shut down and move the men's shelter to the Female shelter they have at place almost out of the city in the Northeast part of town. No more women's shelter now and women have to prostitute themselves or sleep in the street...Yes in some case they can lie and say they are a drug addict or alcoholic and get into one of the very few programs. But for the most part many women are on the street..
So lets look at the mission that moved for the men. Now I do not in any way believe you should force religion on any man Christian or otherwise....If you do into the shelter you have to listen to a sermon each night before you eat or get a bed....if you close your eyes to pray they clam you are sleeping and kick you out. I know people who have been kicked out in the middle of winter for this. But the SRS will give you $241 if you are staying there general assistance and $185 if you live in the street? That makes no since..this is also if you look close illegal as they are paying someone more money to submit to being preached at....The preachers for the most part that go out there to preach to them look down on them and run them down. They are not using love on them. Of course I know because I know most all the homeless. They come in for prayers etc.
Okay so lets say you loose your job and your home. You got two choices hide and I mean hide outside where you can be closer to temporary agencies and listen to people shove religion down your throat. If you are caught outside you will face jail. Yes Jail, if they find you outside they are arresting you for criminal trespass and other things like they did last week. Yes they made a sweep and took all they could find to jail. And for the record some of the guys are not even allowed at the shelter I am talking about. They have no place to be. but the police say move on....This is very stupid. Wichita is the aircraft manufacturing capitol of the world. After 9/11 Boeing laid off over half of it's employees. many companies in town did work for Boeing while others depended on the fat paychecks of the workers very two weeks to be spent in their various places of business. Many people are effected by this and it goes right down the line.. To finally more homeless and not because they do not want to work just laid off here or there...this was the result of 9/11. So there are many more people hurt and being hurt by what happened on 9/11 than you know about.
At any rate we really need your prayers and support at this time. Just pray about it.........
